Copy Editing and Proofreading

Before publishing an article you yourself have written, or one that was written for you, it's significant to take steps in making sure the piece is of high quality, is easy to read and know, and is error free. This means Copy Editing and Proofreading  the work and even having a fresh set of eyes do that same when you're finished. If you are involved in learning the essential steps in properly proofreading a written piece of content in order to get it ready for publishing, read on.

The first step in copy editing and proofreading is to run the spell checker on your word processor. This will help to catch the more obvious mistakes that may have been made during the writing process. However, no qualified proofreading process would stop at this stage. A spell checker can actually miss quite a few points that need attention before an article is published. For example, sometimes while a word is spelled correctly, it can be used in the wrong context, which is something a spell checker can't pick up.

This is why the second step in editing and proofreading is to read over the piece while taking your time. You may have read through it already, but do so again once the spell checker has been complete. Take time to identify parts of the article that can be tightened up or reworded so that it's an easier read. Keep a dictionary handy and don't rush the process. While reading the article as a professional proofreading specialist would, it is important to look for instance where the article might repeat itself. Change words that are repeated too often throughout to others with the same general meaning. Make sure that information is new and crunchy as the article moves on, instead of just recap itself from beginning to end.

One more important step in copy editing and proofreading is to make sure words are capitalized only where it's needed. Proper comma usage and sentence structure is important as well. You can find the most errors by essentially pulling the article apart reading only one sentence at a time. Try reading the sentence forward and then backward to better analyze the text. You can use numerous references when copy editing and proofreading your work, one of the most reliable is the Gregg Reference Manual. You can obtain a paperback copy of the physical, or you can pay for access to their website in order to use their military.

Finally, while you don't need to pay for specialized proofreading, you should believe having a friend or family member proofread your work for you after you've done the leg work yourself. A fresh set of eyes always plays an important role in finding any well hidden grammar errors and mistakes. They can also provide valuable feedback as to the depth of the satisfied they have read which may help you better develop the points you are trying to get across in your article. The copy editing and proofreading [http://fasttypesetting.com/] done to material that is important to your company will leave a lasting impression on your customers and clients. You can rest assured that, as we edit documents of yours, we will help you make a great impression. After all, it's the first impression people have of you that counts!

The Importance of Typesetting Services and Advertisement Design

When placing your ad in print publication you can make a much better response if you have a well designed add Many of the publication out there will offer you free typesetting which is great as it will save you from paying for some typeset ads but the one problem that goes with this is that your ad will look very similar to many of the other ads that the publication has typeset for their other customers. All Typesetting Services have their own style of making ads and the typesetting department for that magazine will have the same style. I have used this free typesetting service from publications in the past and received responses to my ads but have also had my ads done by a different typesetter/ad designer, sent those ads in to a publication and received a much better reply because my ad looked different from the rest.
Typesetting is not too costly especially through those who offer typesetting service by mail. I have compared the prices between some well known mail order dealers who offer this service and the prices from local typesetters and there is a really, really big difference in price. Like mentioned earlier, seems like typesetters all have their own method and it has gotten to a point with me now that when I see ads in magazines I can usually tell who typeset the specific ad I'm looking at. Usually the rates for ads to be typeset are a couple bucks an inch. A full page 8X10" ad will cost you anywhere from everybody prices are different but that is the average prices. Your ad is very important, you don't just want to run a plain ad that doesn't get any attention, you need your ad to stand out from the crowd and grip all the attention it can get.
I can remember one of the first ads I had ever placed in a publication. It was a 1" ad for a money making program I had joined and I had the ad made by a mail order dealer. I believe it had only cost me $1 and a LSASE for him to make my ad. I received my ads in the mail and was not dissatisfied because as far as I was concerned the ad looked good, I could now send it in to a publication and have it published in their magazine. The ad had no clip art on it, no fancy fonts or anything, nothing fancies at all just a border box and some roman text in it. The banner was not even bolded. I ended up receiving 8 inquires to my ad. Later, I had another ad made with the same wording from a special typesetter who made a cool looking fancy border to my add, made my heading stand out with a nice looking font that kind of looked like 3-D. He even added a little artwork in that little 1" space with some dollar signs. I ran my new ad in the same magazine months later and received 31 responses, almost four times the amount from the other plain jane ad I had run. So don't ever forget the importance of your ad design, it can cost you a lot of customers.

Guidelines to Choosing A Desktop & Web Publishing,Application

I'll talk about the final step to building your own web site which is to find a good Desktop & Web Publishing Application, or software. preceding to this step you should have selected your domain and your web hosting company.

Typesetting and Publishing,
Choosing a publishing submission:

This is going to be pretty one-sided. I use one application for all my sites. It's free and has over 25 million users. Here are some of the basic considerations you should make when you choose your application.
A publishing application is the software; so to speak, you'll run to publish your website. There are hundreds, maybe thousands of different application available, some good, some bad, some cheap or free, and some expensive. Choosing one can be a real pain. Keep in mind, when you or your web master adopt a publishing application, it may be difficult to change at a later date. I have a site right now that was built using another program that I will have the good fortune to completely take down/remove from the web, and reconstruct using what I use today. And if your web master is the only one who has the software or application, you may be stuck without the means to modify your own site. As with the previous decisions you have made in choosing a domain name and choosing a host, give equivalent thought to which application you are going to use to publish your web site.

There are plenty of website companies with free design software. You'll get the basic tools for structure a website and don't need to know any HTML or codes. You can add pictures and videos and make a pretty nice site. I would recommend this for those who don't need to drive a lot of traffic to their site. You might use a website like this for communicating with the family or friends. Google offers free websites and blogs, as does WordPress.com. One of the differences in most of the free sites is that you don't get to use your own domain name. If you are a Mac user, you can make websites with their included software called iWeb. It is easy to use and makes stunning pages.
Many web hosts offer free design software when you use them as your host. You will be able to use your own domain name with these. The only one that I am familiar with is Homestead, now an Ituit company. I have one website up on their servers. The design software is OK, but not exceptional. And it won't work on a Mac, unless you are using their very basic web-based softwareThen there are paid subscriptions or desktop software to publish websites. Adobe products, such as Dreamweaver, are used mainly by serious website design professional. These products take a good bit of time to learn, but they can do just about anything on the web. Another simpler product, which I have used, is. It is really easy to use, and has WYSIWYG design, and yet you have all the code available to you if you want to edit it. also helps you keep track of the many websites that you may be publishing and it is very reasonable priced too.

My experience lies with WordPress.org. WordPress.org is blog publishing application, and much more. "Word Press is web software you can use to make a beautiful website or blog. We like to say that WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time", greets you on their front page. Over 25 million people use this open source application, so it is not likely to ever go away. There are thousands of sites that support and discuss any and every part of WordPress. WordPress is web-based and works on any computer, whether it is a Mac or a PC. You can access your dashboard (where you create, modify and publish your web sites) from anywhere you have internet access.

Word Press is the largest self-hosted blogging tool in the world. Word Press pages are seen by tens of millions of people every day. It is completely customizable, meaning you can make just about any kind of site with it, if you have the tech know-how. It is also extremely search engine friendly, meaning your website is more likely to be seen than it might be using some other application. WordPress began in 2003 as a blogging platform and has since evolved into an application that can do just about anything you want. Although WordPress works fine "out-of-the-box", I use a theme which makes my sites look better, makes it a lot easier to edit my sites, and is coded in such a way that the search engine find a new site quickly and move it towards the top (page ranking). There are thousand of themes, and I have looked at a lot of them. I think you will be hard-pressed to top Dick Pearson's Thesis though. Do a little research and see why Thesis is a wise decision. The Developer's option of Thesis will allow you to make an unlimited amount of websites using this theme. Using WordPress you can literally have a website live on the web in less than an hour.I wish you lots of luck with your new website. There are many options to consider. Most of the time you'll make a choice because someone else uses an app or has a webmaster friend. Even if you don't build and maintain your own site, you now know a lot more than you used to.

Formatting or Typesetting: Obtain Your Book Ready for Publishing

I was recently asked if copy editing services include typesetting. Of course, the answer is no. Typesetting and formatting are not normally done by a copy editor. Some developmental editors may assist authors with some type of formatting just to get the document into a more readable Typesetting and Publishing condition, but the interior layout of a book is either the publisher's or the author's responsibility, not the editor's.

First of all, formatting and typesetting is not the same thing.
Formatting has to do with setting the fonts, margins, headers, footers, page numbers, bullet points, etc. to make the manuscript look like a book and not an email, Web page, or essay. Some POD (publish-on-demand) companies will accept a formatted manuscript and use it to print your book. But, beware! They print exactly what you send them as long as it fits within the print parameters they require. So, if you have awkward line breaks, orphaned or widowed headings, mismatched fonts, inconsistent margins, or other formatting evils, the book will look amateurish.

Typesetting has to do with making a book camera ready for a printer, usually needed for off-set runs (bulk quantities). This requires InDesign or some other interior layout program that most editors do not own or know how to use. This is a job for a graphic designer. Typesetting is typically handled by the publishing house if you go the conventional route to bring your book to market. So, if you self-publish your book, you will have to provide files your printer can use. This means you may have to hire someone to layout the book's interior. Some POD companies provide this service; others do not. This is one of the reasons I chose CreateSpace.com (CS) for publishing my last four books. Unlike Lightning Source-the most popular book printer in the US-that has difficult technical requirements, you can send CS your manuscript, which was probably formatted in MS Word and converted to a PDF. It doesn't have to be typeset, so this saves money.

Neither typesetting nor formatting is part of the editing process. However, Writers in the Sky does offer formatting services; and we can refer you to a graphic designer if you need typesetting.

Writers in the Sky Creative Writing Services is an alliance of highly-qualified writers and editors with many years of experience in writing for articles, books, ad copy, media releases, PR kits, Web text, biographical sketches, and newsletters
